ASIA TODAY
BIO

Asia Today was formed in Berlin, Germany in the summer of 2007 by Andy Moss (UK), Simon Fujiwara (UK/JAP) and Ingar Dragset (NO). Asia Today’s eclectic musical style is rooted in melodic indie-electronica with influences from diverse musical sources, from Classic pop to 60’s soul, 70’s protest song to 80’s melancholia through to 90’s house. Often these styles converge in the same song.
Equally eclectic are their song lyrics that present an absurd world of cut and paste fables, tales, sexual escapades, emotions and clichés. In Flowers, tales of golden showers in the 70´s are delivered through African chanting in a song that is ultimately a cry against war, in Rio Superhero the powers of a modern day magician are turned on the down and out of Rio, feeding ‘the favelas with jam and panini’ and saving ‘the drag queen from being a drag’.
Their first concert took place at the word-of-mouth Berlin club Basso, and other Berlin gigs quickly followed at KW, NBI/Berlin Hilton and West Germany. International dates include Copenhagen, London, Turin and New York, as part of the Performa festival in 2008.
The band members have both a musical and artistic background. Ingar is part of the duo Elmgreen & Dragset, Simon works largely with performance and Andy is a musician working who also works on other solo and collaborative projects. For Asia Today, Andy plays guitars and analog synths, Simon: keyboards, violin and cello and Ingar; analog synths and percussion. All three sing, and live instruments are combined with samples and programmed drum machines.
