IBI EGO
BIO

In November, 2003, Ibi Ego was born in a basement between the hills of the city of Tijuana, Baja California, and quickly gained the attention of the local critics with their synth-indie-guitar-rock sound, something that was, in that particular moment, a new contribution to the Tijuana scene.
After playing for more than 2 years in local forums and visiting cities like San Diego, Los Angeles and Mexicalli, the band undergoes a lineup change that motivates an evolution of their sound.
Since the lineup change, Ibi Ego has been You Schaffner (vocals, bass and keyboards), Gabriel Duprat (keyboards, guitar and programming) and David Bravo (vocals, guitar and drums). Together, they begin a new period in Ibi Ego’s history in 2007, when they join Discos Tormento’s roster.
By trying to rediscover their own vision of pop, they land upon a sound that replaces their guitar distortion for sharp beats and synthesizers, indie rock for taciturn dream-pop, Sonic Youth for Cocteau Twins.
The new material that Ibi Ego has been working on still carries some remainders of their guitar past in songs like “You & Me v.s. the Sea” and “Bon”, but the new incarnation of the bans is more nostalgic and melancholic, filled with Polaroid landscapes and memories of teenage mixtapes.
